Sarrita King
Sarrita King is a Gurindji and Waanyi artist, born in Adelaide in 1988 and raised in Darwin. The daughter of the late William King Jungala and younger sister of Tarisse King, she began painting at 16, learning alongside her father and carrying forward the techniques he developed.
Her work draws on the elemental landscapes of the Northern Territory: lightning storms, fire, water, cracked earth and the rhythms of the wet and dry seasons, seen from above. Her Ngurra paintings (Gurindji for Country, home or place) build layered dots, fine lines and radiating circles into surfaces of real depth, while her Earth Elements series follows the freshwater pools, rivers and soakages that move across the Top End.
Her Gurindji family were part of the Wave Hill Walk-Off, a defining moment in the Aboriginal land rights movement. Sarrita's paintings carry that connection to Country into the next generation.
