Esther Haywood Petyarre

Esther Haywood Petyarre paints the bush medicine leaf, a motif she continues from her grandmother Gloria Petyarre, with intricate detail and vibrant colour. The leaves come from the Kurrajong tree and are used for healing in traditional medicine at Utopia. Her Country is Atnangkere, and her grandmother taught her the songs, dances and body paint designs that tell its stories. She grew up among Utopia's painters, including her aunties Ada Bird Petyarre and Kathleen Petyarre.
