Who is Rowdy Warren?

Rowdy (Grant) Warren was born and raised in South Australia and has lived in Adelaide since the 1970s. He works from his studio in Port Adelaide.

He came to painting through design. Rowdy first made a name for himself on the Adelaide punk scene, creating logos and gig posters for his band, which led to design work for other clients and eventually his own streetwear label. That background in bold graphics and colour still runs through his paintings today.

The Wildflowers series

Wildflowers is Rowdy Warren's best known body of work and his main focus as a painter. The series is his response to Australia's native wildflowers and the landscapes they grow in, rendered in saturated colour with drips, flicked paint and dense layering that give each canvas energy and movement.

In his own words, "It's such a thrill to see these beautiful flowers and present them in a way that makes people really see them."

The series ranges from intimate canvases to large statement works, painted in acrylic on linen.
