Rini Tiger

Rini Tiger is a Pitjantjatjara artist associated with Amata in the APY Lands of South Australia. She is the daughter of senior artist and lawman Tiger Palpatja, whose paintings of Wanampi, the ancestral water snake, are closely connected to the Country and stories of his family.

Rini’s own practice draws on this cultural inheritance. Her paintings include Wanampi Tjukurpa and Ngintaka Tjukurpa, the story of the ancestral perentie lizard. She holds connections to the Ngintaka story through both her father and her husband, Sammy Lyons.

Working with carefully placed dots and strong colour contrasts, Rini gives these stories a distinct visual expression. Her paintings bring together family knowledge, particular places and the ancestral journeys that connect them.
