Bush Stories highlights paintings of country, food, and medicine - knowledge carried through generations of Aboriginal traditions.

In Aboriginal art, the bush is never just landscape. It is more than that, food, medicine, law. Some of the stories - Bush Plum, Bush Yam, Bush Medicine Leaves, Bush Onion - these are not subjects in the Western sense, but living relationships between the people who paint them and the country they belong to.

These works are not illustrations of the bush. They are continuations of it. The paintings exist because the country exists, because the knowledge exists, and because the women carrying that knowledge are still painting today.

Through each individual painting, the knowledge is passed on. To be shared with family, community, future generations - so that these stories and connections to Country can continue to live on.
