About Art by Farquhar
Art by Farquhar is a family run gallery based in Edwardstown, South Australia, specialising in original paintings from the Central Desert of the Northern Territory and the APY Lands of South Australia. We work directly with artists and their families from more than 20 communities, including Willowra, Yuendumu, Utopia, Ernabella (Pukatja) and Watarru, across multiple language groups including Warlpiri, Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara, Alyawarre and Anmatyerre.
We are a proud member of the Aboriginal Art Association of Australia (AAAA), the national industry body committed to ethical and fair trade practices in the Indigenous art sector. Membership binds us to a strict code of conduct ensuring every artist we work with is treated fairly, paid promptly and represented honestly.
A family business built on direct relationships
Founded by Michael Farquhar and managed day-to-day by his son Jed alongside our small team, Art by Farquhar has spent years building genuine relationships with artists and their families. We purchase work directly, supply all canvas and materials at no cost to the artist, and ensure every piece that enters our collection comes with full provenance documentation.
You will often find artists here in person - painting their latest works, sharing stories, or simply dropping in for a conversation. That connection to the people behind the paintings is what sets us apart from galleries sourcing art through third parties or secondary markets.
Ethical sourcing and authenticity
Every painting in our collection is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity documenting the artist, their community, the story behind the work and its provenance.
