June Hidden Gems Handpicked by Our Team

 This month our team has handpicked some hidden gems including artists Stephen Pitjara, Karen Bird Ngale, Barbara Baker, Farron Furber Jampitjinpa, Debra Nangala McDonald, Rochelle Bird and Nancy Martin Napangarti,

 

"My Country" Stephen Martin Pitjara 200cm x 91cm

Stephen has a versatile style of artwork with a natural talent for interpreting stories. He paints interesting views of Country using lots of natural looking colours oranges, browns, creams, yellow as well as a strong composition.

 

"Sand Dunes" Farron Furber Jampitjinpa 91cm x 140cm

Farron's "Sand Dune" story has been passed down from his grandmother well known artist Maureen Hudson Nampijinpa. We love Farron's version and the use of the limited colour pallet giving it a stunning effect. 

 

"Ngapari" Barbara Baker 93cm x 134cm

Barbara Baker (APY Artist) was well known for her paintings of "Ngapari", which translates to "Sugar Leaf Dreaming". Often using strong red ochres, oranges, yellow and natural earthy tones and strong shape language to tell her unique story.

 

"Women's Dreaming" Debra Nangala McDonald 102cm x 98cm

Debra really knows how to use colour and movement in her paintings often telling stories of "Women's Dreaming." She is very unique with majority of her works being painted on a red oxide background, giving the colours used in her paintings a special effect. Being one of few female artists from Papunya Camp, Debra has since become a sought after and highly respected artist.

 

"My Country" Rochelle Bird Mbitjana 120cm x 92cm

 Rochelle is the eldest child of Janet Golder Kngwarreye and paints the landscape of "My Country (Utopia)" her home situated in Northern Territory. In this version she uses yellows, creams and white's creating a unique piece contrasted with a black background. Rochelle put's a lot of care into the detail she put's into her paintings.

 

"Awelye" Karen Bird Ngale 89cm x 96cm

Karen was taught the traditional stories, songs, and dances of Utopian ceremonies by senior women and learned painting techniques from her father. She is a rising star in the next generation of Aboriginal artists. Her artwork showcases the stories of Awelye (women's ceremonies and body paint) and the bush tucker, particularly the Alpar (rat tail bush medicine plant), reflecting her cultural heritage and artistic talent.

 

"Bush Onion" Nancy Martin Napangarti 116cm x 47cm

Born in Willowra Cattle Station Nancy has been practicing art for many years. In Nancy’s paintings, intricate dot work represent onion bulbs. She often uses black and white creating stunning pieces which are perfect for any space. 

 

 

"My Country" Farron Furber Jampitjinpa 147cm x 96cm

If you're looking to brighten your space, get your colour wheel out because this piece is full of every colour of the rainbow along with red ochre in Farron's signature style. Farron's paintings are always a popular choice as he follows in his mother Julieanne's highly detailed work.
